About Excel Diesel

Machinery downtime can be a costly exercise, with extensive cost of repairs and more importantly, the associated cost of down time and project disruption.  Excel Diesel understands that production efficiency is key for any business, for this Excel Diesel has geared their business towards keeping your fleet moving.

Founded by Tony Lewis, Excel Diesel began in 2007. Originally focusing on Caterpillar field service and breakdown repairs, he quickly established and extensive client base throughout Queensland and Northern New South Wales.

A specialised workshop was established in Dalby in 2013. Strategically located to support current clients and further enhance our rebuilding capacity.
We specialise in rebuilding engine and major components for large Caterpillar equipment, specifically the 3500 and C series engines. The workshop provides a clean and sophisticated location to perform the quality work we are known for. A combination of quality tooling and people ensures the efficient production of your engines.

Dalby has been identified as a location with strong growth potential provides ample expansion / development opportunities. A reliable supply network has been developed to ensure your smooth progression of work. Parts can be sourced daily from Toowoomba, and overnight from Brisbane / Melbourne. Ensuring your equipment spends more time where it is most valuable.

Reliable engine, transmission and component rebuilds don't just happen. We build more than just engines, engaging with our staff, suppliers, stakeholders and most importantly you, our valued clients. We work hard to develop and place the right people and organisations in the right place, ensuring you get the complete service you require.

Better Service, Better Quality, Better Value.

Tony Lewis

Tony has over 20 years experience working on heavy earthmoving equipment, specialising in caterpillar machinery. He has worked throughout Australia and Indonesia and developed the expertise to ensure no job is beyond his capabilities. This wealth of knowledge and expertise and is the corner stone of the organisation, he is the owner and driving force behind Excel Diesel.

He completed his apprenticeship with NSW Caterpillar dealer Gough & Gilmour at the Mt Thorley branch. This was the setting for heavy earthmoving, with the latest, greatest and biggest of the mining sector equipment. It was during his time here where he spent a great amount of time with engines, particularly the 3500 series, which was the corner stone of engines from the 90's onwards in heavy equipment.

He furthered his field service skills by joining the team at Westrac in Kalgoorlie, WA. This field service area covered a wide and diverse range of equipment, small council, underground, highway trucks and also large open cut. The area was covered by vehicle and plane. In this part of the country good field service skills are not a benefit, they are essential. Tony’s time here helped shape the model for Excel Diesel, reinforcing his belief of completing a job once, and having it done right. This role further honed his methodical analytical skills and systematic attention to detail, all to ensure no faults remained.

Recruited by Trakindo in Indonesia, Tony went back to engine work. This was in the low lands of  West Papua, to support the Freeport mine site at Grasberg. Tony oversaw a crew of 35 staff there where he helped progress engine rebuilding skills and dyno testing procedures. He also developed and implement quality and contamination control procedures for engine rebuilds.  These changes resulted in dramatic decreases in down time for equipment.

Returning to Australia to join Thiess at Goonyella Riverside and later BHP at Groote Eylandt, he gained further experience in both field service and the workshop. Tony trained extensively in Health and Safety Processes to compliment his mechanical abilities.

Believing he had both the skills and experience to provide customers with a better overall experience he established Excel Diesel Pty Ltd.

Better Servive, Better Quality, Better Value.
